Economic Challenges
A majority of business owners are struggling to grow or even maintain the numbers that they had previously achieved. If you're an employee, you are probably worried about your job stability or the future of your employer. You're not alone. Most people are feeling the stress of the economy and it was the number one issue in the presidential election.
President Elect Obama faces many challenges and has many hurdles before him. On just about every front there is a lot of work to be done. From foreign affairs and relationships to our own economy, jobs, and health care. The last year has been tough on the housing industry, and over the last thirty days just about everyone took some type of financial hit. Thousands of jobs and billions of dollars have been lost, and it's not expected to pick up anytime soon. The downturn is that it may not hit the bottom anytime soon. In addition, once we do hit "bottom", it can take years to recover.
Poor Economy - New Opportunities
Everyone is cutting expenses by trimming fat wherever possible. However, during this time, we should also be looking for opportunities. After talking and thinking about all of the "doom and gloom" for the last several weeks, I've been putting my thoughts together about what opportunities can come out of this down-fall.
We have noticed a big slow-down with our web sales. Our inbound sales phone calls have tapered since the beginning of October. This is the same time when the downward slide of the stock market forced the entire nation, and world to hold its collective breath. From this, we have increased our marketing efforts and have looked for new opportunities.
With every downturn, there is an opposite end that we need to pay attention. A prime example of this is in employment. A percentage of these men and women will more than likely consider starting their own small or web based business. Look to market to growing industries, such as health care and education.
What is our opportunity? We will be marketing a small business start-up web design package that would be specific for people looking to start their web business on a limited budget. Part of this promotion will be six months of free hosting and web site design starting as low as two payments of $350 to help people get started with a web site for new business or for supplemental income.
Another way that we've looked to expand our business is by increasing our efforts with more online marketing and email based programs. These areas tend to be very inexpensive to build and the return can be quick. If your business focuses mainly on print advertising, consider doing more online advertising to cut your expenses. If you're looking to cut costs, increase marketing or build brand awareness there's never been a better time to look to the internet.

Online advertising has never worked more perfectly than with our Presidential election. Obama collected record amounts of donations through his website, completely changing the way any campaign will ever be run in the future.
The result from Obama's online marketing and fund raising efforts goes even further. All of the millions of people that have contacted him though the website or made donations are now in his database. I am sure he will be utilizing that database in the future.
